FAQ

Does every single-member LLC have to file Form 568?

No, not every one. Form 568 is generally required if the LLC is organized in California, registered with the California Secretary of State, or doing business in California (which can include having California-source income). That holds even when the LLC is disregarded for federal purposes. See FTB’s Form 568 instructions and FTB Pub 3556. More: Disregarded LLCs and Form 568.

My LLC had zero income. Do I still owe $800?

Generally yes. The $800 annual tax is due every year the LLC is organized, registered or doing business in California, until it is properly canceled. There are some narrow exceptions (for example, certain first-year rules). Ask me about your dates.

What is the LLC fee and how is it figured?

On top of the $800, LLCs with total California income of $250,000 or more owe an LLC fee based on a tiered schedule. “Total income” for the fee is defined in the FTB instructions and is not simply gross receipts. See the LLC fee schedule.

What happens if I filed late or missed years?

FTB can assess late-filing and late-payment penalties plus interest. I offer catch-up prep for delinquent 568s. See late-filing penalties.

I want to shut down an LLC. Do I still file?

Usually you file a final 568 and cancel with the Secretary of State. Until the LLC is canceled, it can keep owing. See canceling a California LLC.

Does 3+ LLC pricing apply to all of them?

Yes. Your volume rate applies to every Form 568 in the portfolio. With 3 LLCs, each one is $199.

What do you need from me?

Prior-year 568s, current-year income records, and proof of the $800 payment (plus any LLC fee estimate). See the intake checklist. Turnaround is typically 5–7 business days after I have complete intake.

Who prepares my return? Is it AI?

568 Desk does. Software flags fee tiers and missing $800 payments, and every return is prepared, reviewed and signed by a person before filing. See engagement terms.

Can you do my personal return too?

Yes. The 568 needs to tie out to your federal 1040 (Schedule C/E) and California 540, so having one preparer for both helps.

Who do you work with?

Mainly owners of single-member California LLCs, often real estate holdings. Multi-member LLCs (Form 568 with K-1s) or complex structures get a custom quote.

Are uploads secure?

Yes. Intake runs through SmartVault, a SOC 2 Type II document portal with encryption and an audit trail. See privacy.

Why is this cheaper than hourly billing?

The scope is narrow and the work repeats from LLC to LLC, so I can price it per return. Software handles the checks, and I do the review.
